Who are we?
NSW had ruled out maintaining $13 million a year in funding for advocacy groups once the state government transfers its disability services spending to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in July.
This funding commitment means that we can get back to doing what we do best – ensuring people with disability have the support to speak up for ourselves and each other.Congratulations to everyone for all your incredible hard work over the last year! http://standbyme.org.au/advocacy-funding-welcome-relief-fo…/ For full article: https://www.smh.com.au/politics/nsw/berejiklian-to-reverse-funding-cuts-to-disability-groups-20180405-p4z802.html
From July next year the NSW Government will no longer fund disability advocacy, representation and information services. These services exist to ensure that people with disability have a voice and can overcome those challenges; that we have input into and control over decisions that affect our lives.
It can be difficult for people with disability to get a fair go and speak up. Sometimes they need someone to help them when things go wrong. Advocacy organisations help people with disability speak up and get a fair go.
The government wants to cut all funding to advocacy organisations. This means many people will not have a voice or get help when they need it.
Please sign your name to tell the government not to take their voice away and to stop funding cuts from advocacy organisations.
